The Intermediate Powerboat Course can be described as a progression from Level 2. It includes pilotage, navigation and more advanced boat handling techniques for planning boats on coastal waters.
You should be competent to the standard of National Powerboat Certificate Level 2 (coastal). It is recommended that, at this level of responsibility, you should hold a First Aid Certificate.
This is a 2 day course and is offered either as a group or individual.
The content of this course is coaching in advanced boat handling techniques. The aim of this course is to improve the skill levels of already competent boat handlers to a point where they have much more confidence in their ability to handle a boat in currents, wind and waves. With the use of GPS in conjunction with traditional pilotage techniques the other main objective will be to teach candidates to produce and execute basic coastal passage plan. A more detailed look at weather systems and tidal calculations complete the picture and, by the end of the course, students will have improved their seamanship and acquired the knowledge which will help them cope with more demanding conditions at sea.
