Name of Course - RYA VHF/D.S.C. Short Range Certificate for Marine Radio Operators.

Description - A Shore based course covering the safe, legal and correct use of VHF/DSC Radio equipment and other radio operated safety equipment such as EPIRBs and SARTs.

Candidates will use special training radios throughout the day, learning the basic operations of the Equipment as well as the more advanced Digital Selective Calling options (DSC) and use of the Distress button.

Candidates will also learn the phonetic alphabet and correct radio speech using roll play scripts and practicing Mayday distress calls and other related Safety and Urgency procedures.

During the course, Candidates will be issued with the RYA G22 booklet which covers the content from the course along with an application for the Certificate; however, the issue of certificates will depend on the results of the exam.

The RYA VHF/DSC Short Range Certificate is a group course for up to a maximum of 12 people.

There is no minimum age to take the course and the exam, however Operators certificates can not be issued until the candidate has reached 16 years old.

The RYA VHF/DSC Short Range Certificate Course is a one day course of 8 hours including the exam. The price for the course includes the certification fee to the RYA.
